Richard Pryor is a comedy God. And this clip about his trip to the jungle is proof that he was decades ahead of his time. This is Richard Pryor funny (yes, there is such a thing as Richard Pryor funny) because he takes something like a trip to the jungle and he kind of creates LOLCats. I know, that sounds crazy, but that's how far ahead of his time Richard Pryor was.
Think about it, this was the 70s, long before the Internet and memes and Icanhazcheezburgers, but Richard took what he saw on his jungle trip and gave the animals personalities and voices. I know that people have done that before (just look at cartoons) but if you listen to this clip you can hear how different it is. The animals are speaking like real people. Swearing, cussing and being annoyed and bored at daily activities. I know a lot of people will disagree with this statement, but I stand by it: Richard Pryor invented LOLCats. It's the way he delivers these lines that totally changes the way people would think about memes of the future, I think. They may not have listened to this clip and gone out and made a funny animal meme, but I think it's not too far fetched to assume that this opened comedian's minds who came after him and paved the way for today's memes you see on Reddit and Buzzfeed.
Just listen to the bit about the cheetahs (and hey, cheetahs are just big cats, right?) and you'll know I'm not too crazy.
